Definition & Positioning

What Is Commercial Brewery Equipment?

Commercial Brewery Equipment refers to integrated brewing systems from 5KL to 20KL per batch, including brewhouse, fermentation cellar, bright beer tanks, CIP, cooling, controls, and packaging lines. These systems are engineered for reliable daily operation, optimized energy usage, and strict quality control.

While nano and micro breweries usually focus on taproom or local distribution, commercial breweries typically supply regional markets, contract brewing, or large-scale distribution channels. This requires:

  • Higher brewhouse efficiency and faster lautering times
  • Large fermentation capacity with precise temperature control
  • Robust CIP and hygiene control to minimize contamination risks
  • Automated controls, data logging, and repeatable brewing profiles
  • Compliance with CE, UL, CSA and local safety regulations

In short: a commercial brewery is not only “bigger tanks”. It is a complete production system designed to deliver stable, repeatable beer quality with lower cost per liter and minimal downtime.

System Architecture

Commercial Brewery System Design (30HL–100HL)

Every commercial brewery is different. We design your system based on building layout, beer styles, target output, utilities and local regulations, instead of offering one fixed “standard” package.

Typical 30HL–100HL Commercial Brewing Line

  • 4/ 5 / 6-vessel steam brewhouse on stainless steel platform
  • Fermenters and bright beer tanks sized 1–4 × brewhouse volume
  • Hot liquor tank, cold liquor tank and glycol cooling plant
  • Fully piped CIP system with dedicated CIP tanks and pump
  • Grain milling, conveying and spent grain handling system
  • Packaging line: bottle, can, or keg filling (optional)

Our engineering team creates a complete layout drawing (2D + optional 3D) showing equipment placement, process piping, drains, electrical and steam connection points. This helps you coordinate with architects, contractors and local authorities from day one

Why Work with a Professional Manufacturer?

Many large-scale brewing problems (poor lautering, unstable fermentation, bottlenecked packaging) come from incorrect early design – not from the brewer’s skill.

As a professional manufacturer, we:

  • Size tanks and utilities correctly for your target output
  • Balance brewhouse, cellar and packaging capacity
  • Optimize piping to shorten product paths and CIP time
  • Design for future expansion of additional tanks or lines

This means fewer hidden costs later and faster payback for your investment.

Steam-Heated Commercial Brewhouse System

The brewhouse is the heart of your commercial brewery. Our steam-heated systems are built to deliver high extract efficiency, fast turnaround, and repeatable quality with every batch.

Key Technical Features

  • Steam-heated jackets with high-efficiency dimple design
  • Heavy-duty mash and lauter rakes with VFD speed control
  • Automatic lautering controls (rake lifting, sparging, wort flow)
  • Vortex whirlpool design for rapid trub separation
  • Insulated vessels with 100mm PU for reduced heat loss
  • All interior welds fully ground and passivated, Ra < 0.6 μm
  • Sanitary platforms with non-slip steps and safety rails

4-Vessel Brewhouse

Mash Tun + Lauter Tun + Kettle + Whirlpool.              Designed for stable commercial brewing, this setup supports 2–4 brews per day with smoother production flow, consistent wort quality, lower operating pressure, and efficient daily performance for growing commercial breweries.

5-Vessel Brewhouse

Mash Tun + Lauter Tun + Kettle + Whirlpool + Buffer/Hot Liquor Tank.
Designed for higher brewing flexibility, this setup supports 3–5 brews per day by enabling smoother batch scheduling, reduced downtime, and more efficient handling of multi-recipe production demands.

6-Vessel Brewhouse

Fully separated brewing system with dedicated vessels for each process stage.
Designed for high-output commercial brewing, this configuration supports 4–6+ brews per day with continuous production flow, stronger capacity utilization, and greater efficiency for large-scale brewery operations.

Fermentation Cellar

Commercial Fermenters & Bright Beer Tanks

A stable and hygienic fermentation cellar is critical to beer quality. We manufacture conical fermenters and bright beer tanks from 30HL to 200HL with precise temperature control and fully sanitary design.

Fermentation Tank Features

  • Food-grade 304/316 stainless steel construction
  • Double-wall with dimpled cooling jackets on shell & cone
  • 60° cone angle for efficient yeast collection
  • 2.0–3.0 bar design pressure (depending on local standard)
  • Side manway for 30HL+ tanks, top manway optional
  • Tri-clamp sampling valve, CIP spraying ball, pressure relief valve
  • Oversized headspace for foam development during fermentation

Bright Beer Tanks

Bright beer tanks (BBT) are used for maturation, carbonation and storage before packaging. We provide both vertical and horizontal BBT designs depending on your room height and cellar layout.

  • Carbonation stone for fast CO₂ dissolving
  • Liquid level indicator and sampling valve
  • Integrated glycol jackets for cold conditioning
  • Flat bottom or dished bottom according to project requirements
Cellar Layout & Cooling System

For commercial breweries, we design the entire fermentation cellar and glycol system as one integrated unit:

  • Glycol chiller sized for peak heat load of fermentation
  • Glycol headers, branches and isolation valves for each tank
  • Zone control (top, middle, cone) for accurate temperature profiles
  • Insulated piping and supports to avoid condensation
  • Expansion allowance for future additional tanks

This ensures that your brewery can run at full capacity in summer without overloading the cooling plant or risking temperature fluctuations.

Quality Assurance: each tank is 100% TIG welded, fully water and pressure tested for 48 hours, with individual test reports and serial numbers for full traceability.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Commercial Brewery Equipment

These are the questions we receive most often from brewery owners who are planning or upgrading a 30HL–100HL commercial brewery.

It depends on your target annual output, number of brewing days per year, and how many brews you want to run per day. As a rough guideline:

  • 30HL brewhouse: up to ~10,000 HL / year
  • 50HL brewhouse: up to ~20,000 HL / year
  • 80–100HL brewhouse: 20,000–50,000+ HL / year

Share your business plan with us and we will calculate a suitable brewhouse size and fermentation cellar configuration for you.

For 30HL–100HL systems, steam heating is recommended in almost all cases. Steam offers:

  • Higher heating power and faster ramp rates
  • More uniform temperature distribution in the kettle
  • Better integration with hot water recovery and energy-saving design

Electric and direct-fire gas are more suitable for smaller breweries or where steam is not available.

The cost varies with brewhouse volume, automation level, number of fermenters, and whether you include packaging lines. As a reference:

  • 30HL commercial brewery (without packaging): approx. USD 200,000–350,000
  • 50HL brewery with fermentation cellar: approx. USD 350,000–600,000
  • 80–100HL brewery with packaging: higher investment depending on scope

We will prepare a detailed quotation after understanding your exact requirements.

Typical lead time for commercial brewery equipment is 90–150 days from deposit, depending on the project scale and customization level. Installation and commissioning on site usually takes 2–6 weeks. We provide a detailed project schedule so that you can coordinate with your building works.

Our manufacturing complies with ISO quality management. We can design and build equipment to meet:

  • CE requirements for the European market
  • UL/CSA requirements for North America (in cooperation with local partners)
  • Local pressure vessel and electrical regulations in many countries

Please let us know your target market and we will confirm applicable standards during the design stage.
